- 74 years have passed since the Meskhetian Turks were sent into exile
Today, we are commemorating the 74th anniversary of the exile of the Meskhetian Turks. The Meskhetian Turks were sent into exile 74 years ago, on 14 November 1944 following to the decision signed by Stalin, Soviet Leader. 92.307 people were rounded up from Meskheti, Adigün, Aspinza, Ahilkelek, Bogdanovka and 220 surrounding villages were sent into exile to Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan). From the ones exiled, 45.985 were children while 18.923 were elderlies and 27.399 were women. During the journey which lasted for 40 days, 12.859 people lost their lives because of hunger, cold and diseases.
